When I look around my house and see work that has been hanging on the walls for several years it tells me something about my tastes (and perhaps my level of laziness!). Early on I made a series of quilts utilizing basic squares and rectangles. Those pieces are simple and appealing. They have remained where they are and I enjoy them every day. A person can say a lot through geometry just by experimenting with hue, value, chroma and pattern. Those pieces have endured and I think are trying to tell me something. Other artwork that I have made has come and gone. These pieces have remained.

In the spirit of that constancy, I made the above pieces. I used existing painted papers (except for the monoprints which are new) and arranged the colors in a way that I thought was effective. I am calling these three pieces (there will probably be more too) More Like Me because of all the things I have done so far with painted papers, these three pieces feel the most Libby-like, the most comfortable and the most exciting.

A friend of mine recently remarked that it seems like I am spending a lot of time outdoors. It's kind of true. I have been trying to take longer hikes about once a week. I walk nearly every day or even ride my bike. I have also had several appointments and days where I am just unmotivated to do much of anything. My focus in general has shifted and for a little while I was really floundering. Being disconnected creatively sucks. And it is hard to reconnect. I don't care what anyone says. It's tough. I have all the time in the world too so imagine what it must be like for someone, like a mom or dad, who is legitimately busy. Ack!

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  1. How wonderful to make a discovery like this. Three pieces out of all you have done reflecting your taste and satisfaction.
Art should reflect what an artist is all about and your earth, water and sky colors are all in these.
Happy to know your walks are so rewarding snd I agree about when creativity flounders the disconnect is painful.
Wishing you only happy days, dear Libby.

    1. Julie,

Ever forward right? It was actually my hairdresser that set my on the right path. I showed her some work and while she liked it, she mentioned that they weren't "her colors". Indeed! That really got me thinking about things. Funny that one comment can help to reveal something.

Hope all is well with you. Thank you as always for your support!

  2. Dear Libby - sometimes we have to travel different paths in order to find out who we really are. Sounds like you have found yourself again. Why is it that our creative muse takes a vacation from time to time? Especially when it doesn't ask our permission :)!! Glad to see yours is back. Hugs!

    1. Debbie,

I keep getting lost right? LOL! Well, creativity is a varied path for everyone. Some people seem to have it easier than others (which I am sure isn't true but feels true). It's hard to keep at it at times.

Hope you are doing well and enjoying the summer wind down. we have some crisp air in the mornings now reminding me that Autumn will be here soon, thank goodness!
Take care and thank you again,
      Libby

    1. Carol,

You are probably wondering "why did she choose those colors anyway???" :):):) Color is individual isn't it and there is a lot to explore, thank goodness. Never boring.

Hope you are doing well. Thank you as always for your visit.

  4. Hello-I'm here from Debbie's blog. I am happy in a weird way to find someone else who has been in a creative standstill~but managed to survive it! I've been there-done that. And I have lots of time too....it can be so annoying to desperately want and need to paint, draw, create-and NOT be able to. I hate it!!!!

    1. Debra,

So glad that you hopped over! It helps to find other people experiencing the same thing doesn't it? I always feel better at least. Being creative in any way can be difficult. Getting unstuck is always a challenge! I really don't know what causes the block but I know it pays to examine possible reasons. There is usually something behind it.

Hope you are currently unstuck and creating! Thank you for your visit.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! I reply back in an email if you are signed in and I can see your address. Otherwise I will post the reply here under your comment. I tend to cut and paste my emails too so that others can experience the back and forth which I think is integral to blogging.
