30/30 Challenge: Day 13

Day 13: 30/30 Challenge:  10" x 13"
I'll be the first to admit that one of these pieces a day is a bit more than I can do. It's possible but then my life gets out of balance!

This one was finished up last night and it's growing on me. I tried working with two sets of color harmonies: violet blue and a warmer yellow-orange and a blue green and orange red combo. I decided on mostly cooler versions of everything-even the yellow orange was cooled down a bit with the blue color. I tried balancing some more saturated areas with some more neutralized color. Though it's not exactly what I had in mind, as I said, it is growing on me.

For the past couple of days I have been working out some color ideas. It's a plan I have to learn more about color combining. Along with color selection comes the issue of the other attributes of color, namely saturation/chroma and value. Just focusing on the three variables of hue, chroma and value could keep me occupied for the rest of my life. Anyone know about Giorgio Morandi? Although trained academically to be a conventional artist, he ultimately abandoned that convention and focused on the arrangement of objects and the manipulation of hues and values for the remainder of his painting career. Gotta love the guy and his singular approach to art making.

OK, thanks for reading and commenting. Now get back to work! :)

  1. Sorry, I am missing the point. Why are you doing this? What are you hoping to gain? I would be grumbling about wasting paints, canvas...

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! I reply back in an email if you are signed in and I can see your address. Otherwise I will post the reply here under your comment. I tend to cut and paste my emails too so that others can experience the back and forth which I think is integral to blogging.
