New Work: Melones Summer

Melones Summer 9" x 12" acrylic on wc paper matted to 12" x 16"-available
January is over but February is here! No more challenge but definitely more work. This one was completed yesterday after quite a bit of trial and error. I have this system worked out now where I get the colors and values to where I want them using acrylic gesso and paint. When I have everything finalized I go in with a thick application of all acrylics. It's essentially working thin to thick and is meant to eliminate painting heavy paint over heavy paint. I try to be smart, I swear!

OK, just a short post today with more later on. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  1. Libby I can see your values are really working well in this piece. I love the light chartreuse green in the bottom right - great contrast with the darker green in the background. Love the organic shapes that you are using to simplify. Keep painting friend...I will be back to visit again soon.

  3. I did a grayscale of your painting, Libby, and the values are well-balanced and so clearly spelled out.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! I reply back in an email if you are signed in and I can see your address. Otherwise I will post the reply here under your comment. I tend to cut and paste my emails too so that others can experience the back and forth which I think is integral to blogging.
